Da Backwudz may remind some listeners of Outkast. Like Outkast, they're a duo, they represent for the Dirty South, and they're funky and creative (note Da Backwudz' single "Don't Like the Look of It (Oompa)," which samples the Oompa-Loompa song from WILLIE WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY). The duo's debut, WOOD WORK, is a solid effort, eschewing the tales of bling that dominate so much of rap in favor of stories of emotional hardship ("Feeling Lonely") and straight good times ("Smoke N Ride"). With quality production and guest appearances from the likes of Slim Thug and Nas, WOOD WORK is a debut worth noticing.
